Ten sentenced of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A longstanding unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's identity.
Their lawsuit states that Owens ignored any factual proof contradicting her allegations opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The pair married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
