Viral video clips appeared to show Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, though he maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Cowboys fans present at the game as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was unfortunate. It was essentially an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the wrong digit,” he noted. “It was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
