It's a challenge for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's difficult for their hitters to possess a record if never given the possibility.

Finally, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her debut and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort can be debated.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts take over and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the right-hander was on her way.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself that way, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was out the team needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the belief to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we are confident we can succeed."

Those words will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this championship need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this triumph coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing through the pain.

But while she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed thoughts of retirement, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
